Once in a while when you go to eat out, the venue leaves a lasting impression. Has that ever happened to you?
Rozalia dairy restaurant and cafe in Bet Shean is that kind of place.
We first discovered this restaurant last year – almost by chance. I was looking for a place to eat out in Bet Shean, while there on a visit with family to see some of the archaeological sites. I found Rozalia ideally situated in the old city so we decided to give it a try. We had such a positive experience and enjoyable time that we were intent on going back.
Over the summer we finally had the opportunity to return. And once more, it didn’t disappoint.
The cafe restaurant is located in a renovated building that dates back to the Ottoman days and is full of character.
The decor of the interior blends old with new. Fresh white walls contrast with a feature wall with delicate floral wallpaper and arch highlighted in blue; and classic contemporary furniture with the richly detailed tiled flooring.
Decorative vintage pieces including an old wireless and typewriter help complete the look and gives it a very atmospheric feel.
Smart, yet relaxed, it’s almost like eating in an elegant private home from a bygone age. And the service is warm and friendly to match.
The Mediterranean influenced food is presented with stylish rustic simplicity. We opted for their specialty salad, a mixture of all fresh and cooked vegetables in season, lasagna with a sweet potato sauce, and a pasta with tomato based sauce from their children’s menu. It was all delicious.
But the highlight was still to follow: their mouthwatering boutique desserts. We shared and sampled a warm berry crumble and chocolate mousse encircled by delicate coffee flavoured meringues. One word: heavenly!
If you’re a foodie, you’ll also love their little patisserie section. There are homemade cakes, biscuits and jams; as well as specialty products like olive oil for sale, neatly displayed in rows on wood shelves.
For it’s stylish contemporary meets vintage interior, delicious Mediterranean dairy dishes and delectable boutique desserts, Rozalia is well worth a visit. No doubt we’ll be back again as soon as we can.
